Ridley of Southampton. Mary Ridley was the third child of Nathaniel a nd Elizabeth (Day) Rid
ley, born abt 1706. She married Francis Jones , son of Francis and ____Tignal Jones of Warwick Co., VA. He was a n ephew of her stepfather, Matthew Jones. It seems likely that Franci s and Mary (Ridley) Jones started out married life on a 200 acre plan tation acquired from Nathaniel Jones on the N. side of the W. prong o f the Cypress Swamp in Nottaway Parish, Isle of Wight Co., VA. The y sold the land in 1740 and moved to Edgecombe Co., NC where he recei ved a land grant in 1744. She is said to have been living in 1784 . Francis Jones died in Edgecombe by Aug. of 1755. He mentioned thi rteen children in his will, but the order of their birth is not certa in.
