Springville, Utah County, Utah, Enum Dist 169, sheet 3. Pearl Daley was found with her brothers and sisters in this census.
54. “Evidence concerning the relationship of Helen Daley to Pearl Daley and Joseph LaFayette Rawlins.”
Pearl Daley had a child Helen by Joseph LaFayette Rawlins in 1907. My mother at the funeral of my father Boyce Rawlins said this lady came up and threw her arms around my mom and introduced herself as Helen Freed. It was the first time she had knowledge of her husband's half sister.
A man came by to see me, Bert Rawlins, inquiring of me whether I had any information about Pearl Daley. He told me about the child she had by Joseph L Rawlins, and he wanted to know if I knew about her novel "Jerd Cless," of which I knew nothing. He left a photo copy of a picture of Pearl and her sisters, along with the note saying that she "had a child b y Joseph L Rawlins."
It was difficult to find any documented evidence of this child by Pearl. Helen states that she was born in New York City, so Pearl must have gone away to have the baby. On the marriage license application when Helen was married in 1930 gave her residence as 1454 Yale Avenue. This was the residence of Joseph L Rawlins at the time of his death four years earlier in 1926. This is the only documentation that I have found that officially shows the connection between Helen Daley and Joseph L Rawlins and Pearl Daley.

Charles Rawlins was found in the Morgan District of Rutherford County in the 1790 census. He had 2 males under the age of 16 in his household besides himself and his wife Anastatia. The one male was Hosea, their eldest son. The other male under 16 is a mystery. There is a tradition that Charles and Anastatia a child who died young. Some have said that he was named Roderick. He had two sons between the ages of 10 and 15 and one son between the age of 15 and 20 years of age. He had two daughters between the ages of 5 and 10 (Eliza Ann and Matilda) and one daughter under the age of 5 (Emily). His wife was between 30 and 40 years of age, probably near the age of 40 since she had a son that was older than 15 years of age.

165. @REPO9@, “History of Bedford, Lawrence County, Indiana,” Book, Family History Library, 35 N West Temple StreetSalt Lake City, Utah 84150 USA.
A paragraph from the biography of Joseph Rawlins, Hosea Rawlins' brother, gives background on Hosea Rawlins as well. It is written into this paragraph without his name ever being mentioned. "Joseph Rawlins came from Danville, Kentucky, with a musket and a .... With him were his brother James Rawlins and their uncle Roderick Rawlins. They came to what is now known as Bono Township, Lawrence County in 1812. Hosea Rawlins was listed in a tax list of Bedford County, Tennessee in 1812, as was his uncle Roderick Rawlins. That same year, Hosea is listed in St. Clair County, Illinois in Novemeber of 1812 registering a mark for his cattle. This implies that Hosea probably traveled with Joseph, James and Roderick Rawlins in 1812 to Indiana, but he kept on going to St. Clair County, Illinois, arriving late in the same year.

The documents in both of the estate files for James Sharp left no question that, indeed, he was the brother of Jane Sharp! The first estate file found in box 64 was dated at various dates in late 1814 and early 1815. The administrator of this estate was Dorinda Sharp his wife. It is interesting to study these documents because of the names mentioned in the inventory and assessment of his estate. James Rawlins received one hyde. The surname Manly, Downs, and Rawlins are mentioned in these documents. His wife was Dorinda Sharp.

The second estate file found in box 76 turned out to be another case involving the same James Sharp who died in 1814 and found in box 64. This was of a much later time period (1830) and involved the minor child of James Sharp and Dorinda Sloan named Elizabeth. Cornelius Hall had been her legal guardian from the time she was 6 months old until the time of the hearing in court (January - March, 1831). She was given the chance to choose her guardian at this hearing, and she chose to live with Wilson Scott, the second husband of her mother, Dorinda Sloan Sharp Scott. Photocopies of the documents from both estates are in the possession of Bert J Rawlins of Riverton, Utah.
